iPad 1 Accessories That Work With iPad 2

After writing the article about the iPad 2 accessories that can already be pre-ordered, I got an interesting question from a reader. He wanted to know what iPad accessories that were good for the now “old” iPad work with the iPad 2 as well. This could be a good money-saving tip: re-use the accessories you already have as much as possible.

The answer is “there are some”. Here’s what I found, grouped by purpose:

Wireless Keyboards

Verbatim Bluetooth Mobile Keyboard

This wireless keyboard is suitable for iPad, iPad 2 and iPhone with iOS 4 or higher. Small and foldable, it’s one of the most useful iPad accessories for people who travel a lot and who want to type on a real keyboard, not on the virtual one. It doesn’t have a numeric keypad, but this is hoe they managed to make it so compact. The keyboard is not as nice as the Apple one, but it’s much more convenient for traveling.
The keyboard comes with a carrying case and with iPhone stand. It works with 2 AAA batteries. I have no idea about the battery life, but if you get rechargeable batteries you won’t have to worry.
Folded dimensions: 6-1/4″ long, 4″ wide, 3/4″ thick

Targus Bluetooth Wireless Keyboard

This bluetooth keyboard works with all Apple iPad and iPad 2 models. It has an ergonomic design, the keys are nice to the touch and there’s a low power indicator light. The keyboard is RoHS compliant.

Keyboard size: 11.2 x 4.8 x 0.7 inches. It is not foldable, but it’s small enough to be good for convenient travel.

Sleeves, Cases, Covers

Belkin Grip Sleeves

Belkin Grip sleeves were first designed for iPad 1. However, they are not supposed to be a tight fit, therefore they are perfectly suitable for iPad 2, too. Since the iPad is not supposed to be used while inside the sleeve, there wasn’t a need for additional cutouts like in other cases.

Hard Candy Cases Bubble Sleeve

The Bubble Sleeve from Hard Candy Cases is one of the coolest iPad sleeves I’ve seen so far. I love those bubbles and I think the case offers great protection to shocks. Like other sleeves, this one fits both iPad 1 and iPad 2. I somehow expected that to happen, because the length and the height of the new iPad aren’t much different from the ones of iPad 1.

Headphones

Since the audio jack of iPad 1 is 3.5 mm, the same as the one of iPad 2, all headphones which work with iPad 1 will also work with iPad 2.

Stylus Pens

Again, all capacitive stylus pens will work with both iPad generations. The picture features the iPad Stylus and Pen from Hard Candy Cases, but that’s not the only one good for both iPads. I chose it for this paragraph only because I like very much how it looks. It’s the most elegant, in my opinion.
